Climate

Alabama has a temperate climate. The Gulf of Mexico to the south helps to moderate the temperatures and is a source of ample rainfall. Summer average temperatures are quite uniform throughout the state, about 82°F (27°C) in July. January averages in the northern part of the state are about 10°F (41°C) cooler than the 51°F (10°C) average for south Alabama. Precipitation averages 50-55 inches (127-139 cm) annually in most of the state, increasing to about 65 inches (165 cm) along the Gulf Coast.
